We have been having an issue of drain blockage. visited the municipality several times and were told the issue of blockage in yards is not the responsibility of the municipality but that of the owner. we got a private plumber who kept on unblocking the drain on a monthly basis at a fee of R800. the plumber initially said this does not make any sense he will have to dig to find out where the problem lies and he did that i even bought new pipes which he fitted. a month or two down the line, the drain next door blocked, the municipal officials came into my yard requesting to check the pipes that links ours with the neighbors to the main pipe. i agreed, they dug a hole and told me my plumber made mistakes and they are aware that the main problem is the main line as the blockage issue does not happen to us only. i returned yesterday after working over the weekend and got home to find that my kids are exposed to an open hole, pavement bricks on the side, smelly and exposed water in the hole. i sent a message to the official of the municipality who was there on Friday 07/10/2022 and he told me my plumber must be the one to fix. i communicated with him again today and told its a private job he cant help as he will be putting his job on the line, my question to him was do i now have to risk injuries in my yard for the diggings they made of which the complain did not come from me. I am very much aggrieved at the lack of assistance and service delivery received from the municipality that should be serving us. if they know the problem is with the main line why do they not come up with a long term solution for all residents sharing the main line. we are unable to even do laundry as the hole is right under the washing line. my neighbour is a pensioner and they also left a dug hole in her yard. it will assist if this complaint channel can be escalated to the seniors of the municipality to resolve this matter.
