Pick n Pay - Rotten food sold at pick and pay florida road

My hubby & I popped into Pick and Pay Florida Road to purchase some cooked food for our dinner on the 25/01/2023. The Pick and Pay on Florida Road had mark downs that had an expiry date of 25/01/2023. We decided to grab the boiled egg, cheese and ham bowls & some salad. When we got home, we found that the contents was already rotten. Taking into consideration the expiry date was the 25th and we planned on consuming it that night we did not think twice about purchasing it but to our surprise, we got rotten foods for a reduced price. On the morning of the 26/01/2022, I stopped by at Pick and Pay before work & I took the rotten food with me. The very friendly staff & manager told me that I bought mark downs at my own risk. I did show them the expiry date is the 25th & therefore the food should have not been rotten because the consumption date was also the 25th. They politely told me there is nothing they can do because we as consumers purchase mark downs at our own risk. So Pick and Pay Florida Road is allowed to sell rotten food at a markdown & not consider the customer. This is such a health risk.
