I would give negative stars if this was a rated review.
2 of my staff had birthdays today, in our tradition, the company buys cakes for everybody.
I firstly went to the spar at moreleta plaza, but they had expired cakes on their shelf. So I went to the pick n pay at woodlands. I asked the bakery lady to give me very fresh cakes, we agreed on 2 cakes, which she picked, from the glass cabinet display, at R166 each. I asked her if she was sure they were fresh, and she said they were made yesterday.
Came back, served all the staff these 2 cakes, had a small taste for myself, and thank goodness I did. The chocolate cake was as stale as toast, the caramel vanilla cake tasted like vomit, then on closer inspection, I saw it had green mold at the bottom.
By now, the staff have eaten the cakes, spat some out, and looked at me like at me like the sort of person who buys them expired cakes on the price reduction table.
Very very embarrassing and quite a risk to their health.
Went back to the pick n pay, and the manager was not available. Sure, they refunded my money, but by now it was not about the money.
It was about being lied to, to sell old stock. It's about facing my staff who now think I don't respect them enough to buy fresh and tasty birthday cakes.
Jan says he will discuss a remedy with his manager. Let's see what happens.
Update, the next day....
Having terrible stomach cramps and diarrhea from eating the cake with the moldy patches under neath it.
I will never return to this pick n pay.
